NOT TO BE BROADCAST

NOT TO BE BROADCAST

SAMUEL OSAZE IYAMU

This book is not a memoir in the indulgent sense, nor is it a history written at a safe distance. It is a witness account.
For over three decades, I worked within Nigeria’s public broadcasters at moments when the microphone was not merely a tool of information, but a site of power, danger, memory, and survival. From the volatile years of military rule and coups, through newsroom intrigue and institutional betrayals, to the cultural reclamation of African music history across continents, I occupied spaces where history was unfolding live, often without rehearsal, and sometimes at gunpoint.

Not to Be Broadcast (NTBB): An Odyssey in Broadcasting is my attempt to record what usually disappears: the tensions behind official narratives, the people whose names never make headlines, and the fragile line between professionalism and conscience.

This work blends personal experience with institutional memory. Where names are mentioned, it is because they mattered to events. Where silences remain, it is because truth sometimes requires restraint.

The narrative remains open-ended by design, because history itself continues to reveal new layers.

I offer this book not as final judgment, but as testimony.
